IMG 8232 1Department of Sports Dietetics was established on the 1st of April 2021 at the Faculty of Health Sciences of Poznan University of Physical Education, as part of the Chair of Dietetics. Due to the comprehensive modernisation of the laboratories and offices of the Department, and then the renovation of the main hall in the southern part of the Main Building, the official and symbolic opening, with the participation of the rector's authorities, deans, scientists, employees of the University and representatives of the Poznań University of Life Sciences, with which the Department cooperates, took place on the 11th of January  this year.

In addition to the rooms with offices, the Department has at its disposal, among others: Laboratory of physical capacity tests, body composition and nutritional status evaluation; Laboratory of nutrition assessment and consultation, Metabolic and molecular laboratory and Laboratory of specific exercise performance tests.

The head of the Department of Sports Dietetics is Professor Krzysztof Durkalec-Michalski, PhD (associated professor). Currently, the Department employs a total of 5 research and teaching employees, one administrative employee, and three doctoral theses are being carried out in the Department.

The scientific activity of the Department includes basic, applied and practical research in the field of nutrition and supplementation to support physical capacity and specific exercise performance, as well as comprehensive evaluation of nutritional status in various groups of athletes and physically active individuals.  Healthy and diseased physically inactive populations are also in the area of research interest of the Department. All research projects leading by the Department are conducted as a joint projects, including an international cooperation.

The teaching activity of the Department is currently focused primarily on conducting of the lectures and classes at the bachelor and master degree of studies in  Dietetics (including the following courses Nutrition in selected sports disciplines, Nutrition in physical activity, Sports nutrition, Supplementation and nutritional support in sports, Clinical nutrition, Clinical profile/characteristic of diseases, Immunology, Functional and special purpose foods, Food quality and safety, General and food microbiology or Academic lectures for dieticians) and elective courses for the students in Dance in Physical Culture.
