We are pleased to announce that, on 18 December 2025, the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland granted utility model protection rights for PAT 2568 W.132167, entitled ‘Device for measuring the clamping force of the upper and lower jaw bones’. The application was submitted jointly by employees of two universities:

  • Dr. Małgorzata Wójcik from Poznań University of Physical Education, who works at our branch in Gorzów Wielkopolski,
  • Dr. Aleksandra Pawlak and Assoc. Prof. Piotr Paczos. from Poznań University of Technology.

The device is used to measure the tension between the maxilla and mandible. It allows for the assessment of pressure in people struggling with bruxism, which is important for monitoring the effectiveness of physiotherapy treatments. The obtained measurements make it possible to determine whether therapeutic interventions lead to a reduction in the tension of the soft tissues of the stomatognathic system.

The device’s design is based on two parallel beams between which strain gauges are placed to record deformation under pressure. The signal from the strain gauges is then sent to a force meter, which displays the result in kilograms. This enables precise, objective assessment of muscle tension parameters.

The obtained protection right is an important step in developing research into innovative diagnostic and physiotherapy methods, and also confirms the high quality of the scientific work carried out in the two collaborating academic units.
